ASSESSMENT IN COMPETENCY-BASED TRAINING IN THE TECHNICAL CAREER OF TOURISM MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

This research sought to understand the evaluation methods used by faculty at the School of Tourism of the Catholic University of El Salvador and the results of these evaluations in relation to teaching methods based on a competency-based educational model. A critical analysis was conducted on the challenges and difficulties faculty have faced in defining and selecting evaluation criteria according to different competencies, while also considering the subjective aspects developed by each student. The data reveals the necessary information and key elements in faculty evaluation of students. Regarding prior training on competency-based assessment, 60% of respondents indicated they had not received any such training. Additionally, the researchers were asked about the most frequently used methodologies that have proven effective for evaluating students, such as project-based learning and direct observation. Finally, it was confirmed that there is a need to train teachers in the area of ​​student performance assessment in competency-based education: in addition to defining standardized assessment rubrics in the assessment process.
