Towards a proposal for Knowledge Management through innovation as a responsibility of Higher Education

Abstract

Knowledge management is the direct responsibility of higher education institutions. UNESCO places special emphasis on this in order to guide students toward developing scientific and critical thinking about the context in which they live. Only in this way will Latin American countries be able to advance through innovation, taking technology and creative research as key factors. However, a greater effort is needed to ensure that all social actors participate in this process, which serves as a benchmark for evaluating the optimal development of individuals within society. That is, to create a stronger link between universities and society in order to achieve greater economic and business growth. Therefore, this paper addresses how education policies, through various structural and social changes, can bring about a shift in the management of scientific knowledge, the enhancement of talent, and human development, with the university and its relationship with society as the main actors. It is argued that this close relationship will not only contribute to improved human development, but also to better intellectual/social capital, which will generate nations better prepared, more competitive, and more developed to face intellectual and social challenges.
