Bioethics in human and animal experimentation

Abstract

Bioethics in human and animal experimentation arose as a response to the need to establish moral boundaries in scientific research. Throughout history, especially in experimentation with human beings, abuses have been documented, giving rise to fundamental ethical codes such as the Nuremberg Code and the Declaration of Helsinki, which prioritize informed consent and the protection of participants' well-being. In the case of animal experimentation, the development of regulations has focused on ensuring their ethical treatment and the implementation of alternative methods. Currently, regulations vary globally, being stricter in regions such as the European Union, while in developing countries there are limitations in their application. In this context, the need to strengthen regulatory frameworks that guarantee the dignity, safety, and well-being of living beings involved in research, promoting ethical and responsible practices, is paramount.
