Abstract

The Department of Santa Ana administratively comprises 13 municipalities, located 65 kilometers from San Salvador. The municipal seat shares the same name and is bordered to the north by Texistepeque and Nueva Concepción (the latter belonging to the Department of Chalatenango), to the east by San Pablo Tacachico, Coatepeque, and El Congo, to the south by Izalco, and to the west by Chalchuapa, San Sebastián Salitrillo, El Porvenir, and Candelaria de la Frontera. The municipality is divided into 35 cantons and 318 hamlets, with a population of 245,421.
