VOICE OVER IP (VoIP) LABORATORY AND ITS IMPLEMENTATION IN ADVANCED NETWORKS USING OPEN SOURCE.

This project was developed with resources from the El Salvador Research Fund (FIES) of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of El Salvador, and with contributions from the telecommunications company SALNET and the Catholic University of El Salvador.
The project included identifying the best software alternative for a Voice over IP (VoIP) platform, which includes operating systems, routing software, an IP proxy server, virtualization software, a firewall, and a softphone, all using open-source code.
It also included a study on the best open-source routing software option and its integration with Cisco routing equipment.
The project experimented with various VoIP equipment and devices before implementing the VoIP platform with the selected software and hardware.
The installed VoIP lab consists of two Cisco routers, two routers using open-source code, IP proxy servers, firewalls, IP phones, wireless phones, analog phones, softphones, and network switches.
Successful Voice over IP (VoIP) trials have been conducted using advanced networks with RAICES member universities and with RNP (Brazil's National Radio Network). It is currently being implemented at RAICES member universities and linked to the CLARA (Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks) SIP proxy server.
