Abstract

Logical-mathematical thinking is an area of ​​knowledge in which some teachers have difficulties, mainly because students sometimes struggle to understand and integrate the concepts of quantity and associate them with numerical symbols. This is crucial for students to progress and understand basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; as well as geometric figures, the concepts of units and tens, spatial location, and other areas of mathematics that students should know and be able to identify. This study analyzed games as an activity designed to help students learn the content covered in class in a concrete way, specifically, the development of logical-mathematical thinking in first-grade students. The results showed that games are only one of many factors involved in the teaching and learning process, since observations of classes in the control and experimental groups revealed a greater use of concrete materials by the students. Therefore, the implementation of games is essential for developing lessons and achieving better content assimilation.
