Corporal punishment in the kids can be defined as “the use of physical strength with the intention to cause pain in the kid but no injury and with the purpose of correcting or controlling his behavior”2. Related to this, the Law of Integral Protection for Children and Adolescents (LEPINA) establishes in the article 38 the “Protection against mistreatment” and its final incise states “the girls, boys and adolescents must be treated with respect as a person and individual and they cannot be forced to corporal, psychological punishments or any other offensive treatment that goes against their dignity, with not prejudice to the mother or father’s rights to instruct, orient or correct them moderately and adequately.
This research verified how the preventive and protection measures oriented to reduce the cases of abuse of the correction right from the parents towards the boys, girls and adolescents as they are applied effectively. To do so, there were interviews to judges,
secretaries, helpers, and members of a multidisciplinary group in the specialized courts for the protection of children and ado
lescents in Santa Ana and institutions that look after women and children, as well as the Salvadorian Institute for the children and
adolescents (CONNA) and staff from different shelters and the results reflected that the application of such measures fulfill the
goal of giving warranty and return the rights that have been violated by the family, and its efficacy depends on the support given by the state, the institutions that watch over the children’s protection, parents and the mechanisms and actions to educate and orient children in order to prevent and diminish this kind of violence.
