Influence of cloud computing on the economic development of SMEs in El Salvador

Abstract

Many companies from different sizes worldwide have already adapted the Informatics model of the Cloud and have obtained its multiple benefits. The adoption of Informatics in the cloud means migrating as a partial or total form the business activities that are carried out through informatics technology or in a manual way in the company, through the infrastructure (servers), platform (vir
tual system software) and hired applications to an informatics server in the cloud.

In this research, the Small and Medium size Salvadorian Companies were chosen (PYMES) because they are a very determining sector in the economic development of the country, and also because they are a less benefited sector because of their resources limitations, technical knowledge and innovating capacity. The methodology in this research is descriptive, using documental/bibliographical resources that allowed examining and analyzing the experience in the informatics adoption in the cloud by the PYMES in different countries and in this way taking them as reference of its application in the Salvadorian PYMES.

The results show multiple benefits that the companies have obtained in those countries with higher development in the world. Also, it describes the difficulties presented in its adoption and some of them is the security and resistance to give control over the operations of an company or external server, that can be settled in a different country from the customer.
