Assimilation of the theoretical component in first-year Nursing students

Abstract

Nursing, according to the World Health Organization (2014), includes the autonomous care and collaboration afforded to people of all ages, families, groups and communities; sick or not, and in all circumstances. This practice requires knowledge, skill and special training for care for people in need. For trainers, it is a constant concern - since the start of the major - provide students with all the useful and necessary tools to achieve this end; also understand that there is a shared responsibility for the development of students. Then, this question comes up, how is the assimilation of the theoretical component of the freshmen in the course of Fundamentals of Nursing I from nursing degree at Universidad Católica de El Salvador 2015?

There is insufficient assimilation that may be due to identifiable factors, among which may be inadequate study habits. Also, this reflected insufficient assimilation and would result in poor implementation of the practical component. The methodology followed was mixed, as a survey was conducted to find factors, and then discussion of student groups to identify study habits. The results of this group show that most students do not have study habits, so that assimilation is poor and this is reflected in the adaptation made   from theory to practice.
