Abstract

This investigation had as objective to establish the relationship between the personal interests and the selection of majors of the new students at Universidad Católica de El Salvador, located in Santa Ana.  The investigation belongs to the descriptive type because it pretends to expose the main personal interests that students take into consideration when they choose a major.

People who were investigated were constituted by students who entered to the four faculties of the university in the semester I-2015. It was concluded that the personal vocation towards the profession prevails among the students to choose their major; although, a smaller percentage of students mention the solidarity, the academic capacity, and the profitability of a major as important factors to take into account in such election. Moreover, students indicate that they chose this university for the academic excellence as well as the teachers. That indicates a positive perception from the population to the academic work that is performed in this institution.
