Use of the Balanced Scorecard in Micro and Small Footwear Industries in the Department of Santa Ana, El Salvador

Abstract

In El Salvador, the micro and small enterprises (MYPES) represent 99% of the business sector, generating about 67% of jobs and 35% of national income. This study focused on determining how much is known and used by MYPE industrial sector footwear department of Santa Ana, the instrument of planning, management and control called balanced scorecard or BSC, also known as the balanced scorecard or CMI.

Within the industrial sector of interest or object of study, the footwear industry becomes very important because of the fact of being in an intense competitive environment in which MYPE strive to maintain its share of the domestic market, competing often with products imported from mainly Asian origin and characterized by low prices, without neglecting unfair competition from smuggling and informal trade.
