Abstract

In the last years, our country has been affected by a growing number of people with a chronic kidney disease. This disease was found during <<the year 2013 among the first five causes of hospital death>> (MINSAL, 2013). << In the year 2014, it caused the 3% of outpatient and the 14% of departures in the hospital area. It made it worse because of the influence of obesity in Salvadoran people>> (MINSAL, 2014).

Some studies made by Fridman and others (2006), obesity is linked with the reduction of the renal function so that it seems important to detect mistakes in the renal function to diagnose CKD. This investigation was done due to this reason, taking as sample all the obese patients and overweight individuals found in the study of healthy habits conducted by Universidad Católica de El Salvador, UNICAES during 2014.

The objective of this study was to identify if employees and students with obesity from UNICAES present a risk of developing chronic kidney disease. For that reason, these people underwent a creatinine serum test. Applying the Cockcroft-Gault equation, glomerular filtration rate was obtained, thus analyzing renal function. It was found that 50% of the participants presented a reduction in glomerular filtration, classifying them in stage 2 of CKD, while 20.3% were in stage 3 during the first control. It is important to emphasize that 53% of the participants are between 40 and 50 years old.
