One of the phenomena faced by the adolescent population of El Salvador is malnutrition and its effects on health status, which are related to chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and kidney failure, which are also associated with dyslipidemic disorders. Dyslipidemia or hyperlipidemia in children and adolescents are a group of disorders characterized by excessive production or decreased clearance of serum lipoproteins.
The practice of unhealthy eating habits is related to the presence of such dyslipidemias. Therefore, according to cholesterol and triglyceride levels found in students, there is a considerable increase, as well as in blood pressure parameters. This is related to the timing and types of food consumed, since 60% of study participants reported eating fast food three or more times per week. Similarly, data on weight and height of the student population showed overweight and obesity conditions due to the eating habits they practice and the malnutrition in which they find themselves.
