Follow-up of Graduates from the 2013–2014 Cohorts, Multidisciplinary Faculty of Ilobasco, Catholic University of El Salvador

Abstract

In the last thirty years, follow-up of graduates has been an important activity of higher education institutions to determine the impact of this type of education in the different areas of graduates’ lives. The study determined the percentage of employability that graduates of the Universidad Católica de El Salvador Regional Center of Ilobasco have in relation to three of their majors. The conditions and type of employment were also analyzed in order to make informed decisions about curricula and basic needs of students in majors currently demanded by the labor market.

The research was carried out during semesters I and II of 2016, following up graduates from the 2013–2014 cohorts in the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in English, Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Mathematics, and Bachelor in Marketing and International Business. The data was collected through an electronic survey consisting of two sections: one collecting information about graduates who were working, and another directed toward those who were not. Of the total sample, 61% of graduates were working at the time, but only 39% were working in their field.
