Abstract

Family is the first school in the education of children. It is within the family where children acquire the first values that will guide their adult life. When the family has completed the initial education of children, the school complements this task by providing academic education. Later, these children enter higher education. Based on these ideas, a question arises: What is the role of the family in the process of higher education?

The researchers surveyed parents and students. Random focus groups were conducted, which helped gather reliable data and establish a closer connection with students. Based on the results, it is concluded that parents still play an important role in the formation process of university students. Many parents have only basic education; however, they continue encouraging their children to obtain a university degree. Parents provide economic support, and most importantly, according to students, moral support is crucial for continuing and completing their academic studies.
