Abstract

The current situation that the elderly are facing during their aging process and the population growth of this part of Salvadoran society is not very favorable; many of them lack the necessary means to have a better quality of life. Due to their age, this population is subjected to exclusion and discrimination, and they are forgotten by the State, the family and the society, who have become insensitive to the elderly’s needs and do not ensure them a dignified life. This situation requires the implementation of existent integrated actions or the creation of new ones in both governmental and non-governmental field so that they are developed through specific programs in order to revalue the elderly’s role. All this represents a challenge for all the responsible entities. In this sense, this research determined that there exist actions that are implemented by certain institutions. However, these efforts are not enough since all the needs that require special attention are not fully met in spite of having the Act of Comprehensive Care for the Elderly, which has no impact on practice.
