Proposal for Energy Consumption Efficiency Applied to Lighting Fixtures in Building “C” of the Catholic University of El Salvador

Abstract

An analysis of the correct lighting of architectural spaces is fundamental for every designer, if what he wants is to ensure that these environments have the right light quality for their function. The interior light in the spaces during the day comes from the combination of a natural source that is the sun and the artificial illumination, and at night only artificial light is used, which can come from different types of lamps such as incandescent, fluorescent, halogen or LED among others. This type of illumination can also vary according to the type of emission of the flow and its location according to the use of the space.

A procedure for analyzing artificial lighting is the method of lumens, which takes into account the quality of light based on the type of luminaire, the flow and its location among other factors, to obtain a uniform light according to the space required. The study case is the building “C” of the Universidad Católica de El Salvador, which is composed of environments in which teaching-learning activities, administrative, drawing practices, architectural design, and other academic activities in general are developed.

The choice of a good luminaire for these installations is important, and it should be based on regulations that highlight the quality and quantity of light that is needed on the work surfaces, so that the activities are developed in the best way; taking into account that for this use, the type of luminaire must be of direct incidence. At present the quality of being efficient in the energy consumption must be taken into account without sacrificing the quality or intensity of the light.
