Evaluation and Comparison of Two Green Pepper (Capsicum annuum) Varieties in Relation to Their Behavior Against Pests, Diseases, and Production

Abstract

Agriculture and commerce provide a high level of agroecosystem services and social and economic opportunities focused on food security. The main purpose of this research was to evaluate and compare the results at each stage of the production of green pepper, using two varieties: the best known and most widely planted, and another hybrid variety proposed to increase producer benefits, both in the greenhouse of the Universidad Católica de El Salvador, Santa Ana campus.

The size of the seedlings was measured before treatment, as well as the number of leaves per plant and number of fruits, through periodic measurements to obtain monthly average results. In addition, comparative management practices were established to evaluate the growth and development of the seedlings using the same inputs, in order to determine the most appropriate protocol for green pepper production under greenhouse conditions.

Treatment 1 (Nathalí green pepper variety) versus Treatment 2 (variety 1138) showed no significant differences. There was no significant variance in plant growth height or stem diameter between the two treatments. Green pepper production under greenhouse conditions allows the use of techniques that generate similar results using the same management approach for both varieties.
