Abstract

The evaluation of the nutritional status is one of the basic strategies for child survival. Nutrition has an influence on brain development both anatomically and functionally. Also, there is an association between poor nutrition and poor mental performance not only in early stages but also in the long term. In this study, the nutritional status of children attending the rural health clinic of El Resbaladero canton in the department of Santa Ana was determined according to variables such as gender, age, health status, and prevalence of anemia.

There are some determinants that show the relationship between the malnutrition status of evaluated children and their health condition, which is manifested in early stages of life.
