Abstract

This research examines how employers in companies located in the western region of El Salvador evaluate the skills and competencies of job candidates at the time of hiring, and how these abilities improve through proper training, experience, career development, and the passage of time. The ultimate purpose is to ensure that organizational goals are effectively achieved for the benefit of the institution.

A total of 62 employers were contacted and questioned about the performance of professionals occupying managerial positions who held university degrees, regardless of their field of specialization. Likewise, individuals performing administrative duties and supervising subordinates within their companies were included in the study.

The findings revealed that employers often provide opportunities to applicants even when they do not possess all the skills and competencies required for optimal job performance. In many cases, the attitude displayed during the job interview is considered more important, since companies invest in training programs that equip new employees with the knowledge, skills, and competencies specific to each institution and assigned position, enabling them to fulfill organizational tasks and responsibilities effectively.
