Application of Digital Tools for the Construction and Consolidation of Learning in the Course Curriculum Development of Social Sciences I

Abstract

The teaching of Social Sciences has traditionally been characterized by monotonous instructional processes in which the cognitive-conceptual component has played the leading role. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually introduce educational technology tools that promote active and meaningful learning among Higher Education students who are preparing to become future educators.

The purpose of this action research study was to improve the teaching-learning process through the use of digital tools for the construction and consolidation of learning in the course Development of Social Sciences I during the first academic term of 2019. After diagnosing the situation and context that characterized the teaching-learning process of the course, didactic strategies based on digital tools were established. These resources were implemented to support the construction and consolidation of learning and to reflect on the outcomes obtained.

Following the implementation of educational technology, students demonstrated a significant increase in motivation during class activities. A preference for collaborative work was observed, along with improvements in both qualitative and quantitative results within their educational process. The study confirmed the importance of working with Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), as they encourage self-learning and the creation of products with visual components that foster creativity.
