Abstract

Globally, the tourism sector continues to increase both the number of travelers and the amount of money invested each year, and El Salvador is no exception. The country has strengthened its efforts through policies, programs, and investments aimed at supporting the development of the tourism sector.

One strategy for companies is to innovate in order to improve their competitiveness in the market. For this reason, a descriptive study was conducted to evaluate innovation in four areas: products and services, processes, organization, and marketing.

The objective of the research was to examine the efforts made by companies regarding innovation. To achieve this, business owners from the sector were consulted to develop a diagnosis of innovation-related activities and their sources of knowledge. Two main barriers to innovation were identified: a lack of financial resources and the high cost of investment.
