Competencies and Tools Strengthening the Profile of Salvadoran Journalists in the Digital Context

Abstract

Salvadoran journalism faces the challenge of adapting to a constantly evolving digital environment, where technology is redefining traditional professional practices. This study aims to identify the key competencies for monitoring, producing, and disseminating information, as well as the digital tools that strengthen journalists’ profiles in this context. Through a descriptive study, two essential segments of journalistic practice were analyzed: digital editors and reporters. In-depth interviews were conducted with the former to explore their perspectives and strategies, while structured interviews were administered to the latter to understand their field experience.

The results highlight that rigorous fact-checking and discerning reliable sources are priority competencies in the digital context, combining the essence of traditional journalism with the need to adapt to rapid changes in information technologies. Additionally, there is a growing reliance on digital tools that facilitate both content production and dissemination, in response to the demands of an increasingly discerning audience.
