Abstract

This paper presents the results of an inter-institutional research project conducted by the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the National Council for Private Higher Education (CONESUP) of the Ministry of Public Education in Costa Rica. The overall objective was to analyze various aspects related to the preparation of faculty members who teach undergraduate and graduate programs in Education at public and private universities in Costa Rica.

The methodology employed was quantitative, using data from faculty registration records from 33 private and 4 public universities. Among the findings, it is noteworthy that there are differences between faculty members who train teachers at public and private universities in terms of degrees, experience, and publications. The study shows that teacher educators at public universities hold more postgraduate degrees, have more teaching experience, and have more publications. This study provides important insights for institutions responsible for training educators in higher education.
