Smartphone ownership and usability among students at the University of Los Lagos, Castro campus

Abstract

This study aims to understand the current state of smartphone ownership and usability among students in the first and third semesters of the daytime technical programs in Business Administration, Computer Science, and Occupational Risk Prevention at the University of Los Lagos, Chiloé-Castro campus. The study employed an explanatory, non-experimental, and quantitative paradigm. To obtain the most objective data possible, a survey was used for data collection and subsequent analysis.

The results showed high student access to these devices and the potential for using them to carry out educational activities that support learning. Following the analysis, various activities for using these devices are proposed, as well as the need to develop applications that enable their use as tools to support the teaching and learning process within the technical programs' curricula, in accordance with the institutional competency-based model.
