Gestational trophoblastic disease: a literature review with a preventive focus

Abstract

A descriptive literature review on gestational trophoblastic disease was conducted from the perspective of nursing staff in health promotion. A qualitative narrative method was employed, using the Google Scholar and SciELO search engines. Twenty-four related documents were selected through convenience sampling, and the following keywords were used in the search: "gestational trophoblastic disease," "nursing interventions," "health promotion," "complications," and "risk factors," using the Boolean operator AND, for the period between August 24 and September 14, 2024. The literature shows evidence of two interesting cases of molar pregnancies with coexisting fetuses in advanced gestation without apparent physical anomalies. In conclusion, nursing interventions promoting health and preventing gestational trophoblastic disease, as well as guiding women toward a healthy and balanced diet before and during pregnancy, are successful tools. Furthermore, maternal and fetal health should be prioritized when considering invasive procedures that could jeopardize a woman's reproductive health.
