Classroom adaptable to the needs of students with low vision and its business application

Abstract

This article aims to identify the specific educational needs and psycho-pedagogical guidelines necessary to serve the population with low vision and blindness, in accordance with current Costa Rican legislation, particularly Law 7600, the Law of Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities. The National Hellen Keller Education Center of Costa Rica, an institution under the Ministry of Public Education that serves people with visual impairments and deafblindness, is used as a reference. As a result, an adaptable classroom is proposed for implementation in companies to develop job profiles for people with disabilities, recognizing that this population develops fundamental skills in the business environment. The proposed design incorporates features that consider the specific needs of these individuals, proposing a functional, feasible, proportionate, obstacle-free, safe, and easily navigable space; with elements that facilitate the spatial and temporal orientation of users, as well as appropriate lighting, contrast, sounds, and textures.
