Short-term pulmonary sequelae in patients recovered from COVID-19

Abstract

This review article addresses short-term pulmonary sequelae in patients recovered from COVID-19, aiming to determine the most frequent sequelae and their relationship to acute phase therapy, as well as all the physiological and clinical aspects related to these sequelae. A brief overview of the relevant historical background of the causative agent and the pandemic is provided, followed by a proper conceptualization of the clinical stages experienced by patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. This allows for a better analysis of these concepts and reveals that the causative agent is dynamic and highly virulent, which has led to an increasing number of sequelae in patients recovered from this infection. In summary, COVID-19 is a causative agent of respiratory infections that can cause multiple systemic sequelae.
